The next meeting of the Parish Coucil will be held in the Village Hall, Churchgateway (next to the High School) on Wednesday 21 October 2009 starting at 7.30pm. As usual there will be an opportunity at the start of the meeting for local residents to raise any issues of concern.
For a summary of issues discussed at recent meetings, please see the 'Minutes' page.
A meeting was held in the Village Hall in June to discuss the idea of a Parish Plan. Local parishes have been invited by the Borough Council to submit a new local plan for their area. Although this is not compulsory, and a village appraisal was done a few years ago, if there is no plan then local views on important matters such as the number and siting of new houses and the provision (or not) of local services may not be taken into account.
About 125 communities (c. 25%) in Norfolk have already completed such a plan and approx. 50 more are in progress. About 8 people would be required to compile a plan for a village the size of Terrington, drawing up a questionnaire to seek the views of as many villagers as possible on the current problems with (and future goals for) such issues as transport and traffic, affordable housing, environmental issues, the local economy, local services, crime and safety, and social and leisure needs. The data is then collected and analysed to assess the needs of the village and the changes required- the plan must then be adopted as policy by the Parish Council.
In order to make this happen, more volunteers are required. This would involve meetings, delivery and collection of questionnaires and the analysis of the data, over a period of several months. Further road markings at the A17 / Station Road junction have now been removed, following representations from the Parish Council and a number of local residents, which it is hoped will clarify the priority of right-turning traffic already on the A17 over those vehicles waiting to turn right from the side roads. If you would still like to make any views known on the junction layout you can write to the Casualty Reduction Section, Dept of Planning & Transportation, Norfolk County Council, Norwich NR1 2SG. The Engineer is Kevin Allen, the direct dial phone number is 01603 224204 and the e-mail address is kevin.allen@norfolk.gov.uk
